We at the Placentia Library Friends Foundation hope you and your loved ones are safe and well. 2020 was a year of many changes for a great number of people in our community, and PLFF has been adjusting right along with you. Due to some unavoidable circumstances, our membership drive did not go out in June 2020 as usual. We ask you to please consider renewing your membership or making a donation at this time.
Your contributions have a substantial impact on making vital programs and services available for the Placentia Library. We need you!
PLFF supports many programs that would not otherwise exist. These usually include: adult book discussions, storytime, family game day, college prep exam workshops for high school students, literacy for adult learners, and the Summer Reading Program and Celebration.
The library has moved many of the programs to an online format. Storytime has continued. Hands-on education and maker-space programs have converted to take-home kits with video instruction. New innovations such as curb-side pickup were made available. The library even served as a hub for distributing free lunches while schools were closed, a vital service for some students who rely on those lunches to be well-nourished. Your donations help make all this possible!
At the same time, many PLFF fundraising efforts had to be curtailed for safety reasons. The PLFF bookstore reverted to the Honor Box system. Our Second Sunday Sales ceased. Reduced library traffic resulted in a great decrease in vending machine sales. Our yearly Author’s Luncheon in March 2021 has been cancelled due to restrictions on social distancing. As a result, PLFF is in great danger of not being able to fund many of the library programs that we support year after year.
Behind the scenes, the PLFF Board of Directors has been working hard to develop solutions to the challenges we face. We are near to finalizing a plan to be able to do the following:
- The library’s teen volunteers will sort and price books. Accepting donations will resume.
- We kicked off a new holiday fundraiser providing a quality Letters From Santa experience
- We will be holding several small fundraisers over the next year
